What a Thai massage is
Thai massage, or Nuad Thai, is a full-body treatment without oil. You stay dressed, and your therapist uses palms, thumbs, elbows and knees to press along the body's energy lines, then moves you through gentle assisted stretches. In 2019 UNESCO added Nuad Thai to its list of the world's intangible cultural heritage.
Our therapists trained in the Northern Thai tradition, which tends to use a slower rhythm and more stretching than the firmer Bangkok style. Tell her how strong you like it before you start, and she will keep checking the pressure as she goes.
Who it's good for
Stiff backs, tight hips and tired legs after a day of walking the Old City or climbing Doi Suthep. Guests also come for long-standing aches: one guest with a problem area on the spine came twice, saw a different therapist each time, and rated both visits excellent. If you have an injury, mention it when you book so we can match you with the right therapist.
How to prepare
Wear something loose and comfortable, and don't eat a big meal just before. 90 minutes is the most popular length: long enough to work through the whole body without rushing. Water is served after your massage.
